- A signed-in session. With the authenticator on, email codes stop.
Steps
On Sign in, enter the email address you signed up with. A six-digit code is on its way; it works for 10 minutes.
Type the code on Sign in. It continues on its own once all six digits are in.
To add an authenticator, open Authenticator app from Account, confirm it is you with an email code, scan the code with your app, and type the six digits it shows.
Save your recovery codes. Each one signs you in once if you lose your phone.
Lost your phone? Sign in on Use a recovery code.
Good to know
- Once the authenticator is on, email codes stop.
- A password is only ever a second step after the authenticator. It never signs you in alone.
- We never ask for a code by phone or chat. Type it only on this site, and check the address in your browser first.
- Lost your phone and your recovery codes? We email you a code, wait 72 hours, then turn the authenticator off, and we email you when the wait starts and when it ends.
- People at an institution sign in with its own identity provider, on Sign in with your institution.
